In addition, this event helps our charitable partners raise money independently of the races themselves. Since 2020, over $650,000 has been raised for cancer research by Dunn with Cancer alone!

Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada
By providing support, education, information and research funding, Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada has been making a difference in the lives of the over 55,000 Canadians currently living with a brain tumour and thousands more before them.
Since 1985, more than $7.6 million in direct funding to research has been raised, spread among 256 projects and initiatives.
Research funded by Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada has helped improve the accuracy of radiation treatments, shorten treatment regimen times, limit side effects from chemo, and improve quality of life for patients after surgery. They are the sole funder of the Brain Tumour Tissue Bank, providing free samples to clinical researchers around the world to further the search for a cure.
Over the years, Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada developed a nation-wide support network that has grown to include both in-person and online groups. They have taken support directly into the home with the publication of four handbooks – one each for adult, pediatric, and non-malignant brain tumours, as well as a handbook specifically for caregivers published in 2019.

The DUNN with Cancer Research Fund was established in 2020 in memory of Allison Dunn, a mother of three, who was diagnosed with glioblastoma on February 18, 2020. Allison’s diagnosis was unexpected, as over a two week period she went from hiking with her children to being told she had an inoperable tumour with an average life expectancy of 18 months. When chemotherapy and radiation treatment had minimal impacts, Allison passed away peacefully on June 17, 2020, 4 months less a day after the tumour was discovered.
Determined to fund research and foster innovation, Allison’s family and friends established the DUNN with Cancer run. Funds raised went to the DUNN with Cancer Research Fund, to expand the field of researchers and help fund new innovative concepts. So far, this event has raised over $650,000.
With the funds raised, two brain tumour feature grants have been started and one Fellowship grant will be announced in the coming months. While this is a fantastic start, we know more needs to be done to support glioblastoma research.
We need to keep up the Movement of Hope. We will run again. We run for Allison. We run for every person who has been or will be impacted by glioblastoma. We run to raise money to find more innovative concepts that will change the future for others affected by this devastating disease. We run so that other families can hopefully – one day – avoid having a similar fate.
